Big Walk Co-op: Player Count, Voice Chat & Tips

Big Walk co-op is the core way the game is meant to be played. It is an online cooperative adventure built for 2–12 players, and while there is no random matchmaking, you can easily group up with friends using join codes or your platform friend list.

How Big Walk Co-Op Works

Big Walk is a game to play with friends, so multiplayer is a central piece of the experience. There is no online matchmaking, which means the game will not automatically pair you with strangers. Instead, you connect through join codes or friend lists that you control.

The co-op design assumes you bring people you already know rather than relying on a public queue. This keeps every session an invited group and makes the host's role important for saving and continuing group progress.

  • No online matchmaking
  • Connect via join codes or friend lists
  • Sessions are invitation-based, not random

Platforms That Support Co-Op

Big Walk co-op is available across PC and Mac via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Because these platforms all participate in the same multiplayer system, you can cooperate with people regardless of which of these systems they are on.

Playing across systems is straightforward once a session is set up, so the main planning step is deciding who hosts and how the others join. The platform list also defines where co-op is possible at all.

Joining With a Join Code

When your host starts the game, they receive a code that appears on the bottom left of the "Host Game" page. You will need to input that code, given to you by the host, once you are in the "Join Game" menu. After entering the code, you simply enter the game.

This method works even when the people you are playing with are not linked through a platform friend list. It is the most flexible way to bring an arranged group together, especially across different platforms.

  • Host gets a code on the "Host Game" page (bottom left)
  • Enter the code in the "Join Game" menu
  • Works across platforms and outside friend lists

Joining From Your Friend List

On the Join Game page, Big Walk automatically pulls your friends list into the game. People playing on the same platform who are on your friend list will show up there, and you can join straight from that list without needing to exchange a code.

This route is the quickest option when everyone is on the same platform and already friends. It removes a manual step compared with the join code method, though it does not cover cross-platform friends the same way.

  • Friend list is pulled in automatically on the Join Game page
  • Same-platform friends appear and can be joined directly
  • No code exchange needed for same-platform friends

No Random Matchmaking

The most important co-op limitation to understand is the absence of random matchmaking. If you launch Big Walk hoping to be paired with other players, the game will not do that for you. You must arrange your group in advance through a host, a join code, or a friend list.

Treating one arranged partner as a prerequisite is the safest planning assumption. Until an official matchmaking feature is announced, every successful co-op session depends on players you can invite directly.

  • No automatic pairing with strangers
  • Arrange your group before launching
  • One known partner is the practical minimum
